2. Algorithmic Transparency¶

Alternative: Algorithms are auditable. Effects are measurable.
How: - Mandatory disclosure of optimization targets - Independent auditing of algorithmic effects - User control over recommendation systems - Public research access to platform data
3. Connection-Optimized Design¶
Current: Design optimizes for engagement (time, clicks, shares).
Alternative: Design optimizes for wellbeing (connection, understanding, growth).
How: - Regulation of addictive design patterns - Incentives for connection-positive features - Measurement of social health, not just engagement - Design standards that protect attention
4. Integration Over Extraction¶
Current: Business models extract value from users.
Alternative: Business models create value with users.
How: - Cooperative ownership models - User-owned platforms - Subscription models that align incentives - Public investment in social infrastructure
